Imagine a digital initiative designed to fast-track the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in subsea operations. Imagine organisations coming together and collaborating for the good of the wider subsea sector. Elementz imagined all those things too – then made them reality.

Subsea asset integrity management software market leader Elementz is redefining the subsea sector by enabling the transformation and modernisation of integrity management across subsea asset portfolios, delivering solutions that improve efficiency, sustainability and safety. Central to this approach is Tide Breaker which has been developed in collaboration with a consortium of global energy operators to turn subsea innovation into real-world impact by connecting start-ups directly with industry data, infrastructure, and expertise.
A soon-to-be-unveiled cohort of start-up business applicants will work through development and testing phases, followed by evaluation and commercial integration. They will be given access to datasets to help them refine their solutions to better suit subsea operators’ needs.
The initiative is backed by the Compass strategic advisory board, which includes representatives from the likes of Aker BP, bp, Shell, and Woodside Energy. Its Tide Breaker progeny is now transforming how AI is developed, validated and adopted across the subsea sector. It will enable start-ups to align with real operational challenges and provide subsea operators with proven, integrated solutions that meet evolving needs.
Tide Breaker is co-led by The Data Lab, Scotland’s innovation centre for data and AI, which supports technical delivery, participant selection, and programme governance. Support from ONE Digital Tech created benefits from connections into the region’s wider entrepreneurial ecosystem, helping ensure the programme drives impact at scale.
When it comes to redefining the subsea sector the Elementz ethos is simple: don’t just turn the tide, break it.
