An ambitious provider of engineering technology to the renewables sector has announced plans to almost treble its headcount over the next 12 months.
Glasgow-based Ilosta was founded by chartered mechanical engineer and structural integrity specialist Dr Saber Khayatzadeh in 2019. It provides innovative solutions to improve the reliability, performance and lifespan of critical infrastructure assets, with an initial focus on the wind energy sector.
In addition to growing the current team of nine to a forecast 25 by the end of 2026, Ilosta also plans to expand its UK presence beyond its Glasgow headquarters, with long-term plans for international growth also on the horizon.
The company’s ground-breaking Crack Map™ software will set the standard for structural integrity and damage analysis of wind turbine blades, towers and support structures by interrogating inspection, sensor and operational data in a single workflow – from point of capture to engineering decision.

Commercialisation is well underway and a further funding round is now underway to scale the technology.
Bolstered by strong support from Scottish Enterprise, including success in the recent OW CAN DO funding call with their proposal for enhanced corrosion impact assessments, the up-and-coming company has also benefited from links with Innovate UK, the national innovation agency supporting business-led innovation in all sectors and technologies, across the UK.
One such project has led to the creation of a technology for an inspection of wind turbine blades that can be completed whilst they are in service using a single industrial drone (non-specific) and without incurring asset downtime costs or the need for customer resource.
In-house expertise is also in demand from the industry at large, and Ilosta sits on the steering committee of a DNV-led joint industry project to consider a new standard for the life extension of offshore wind turbines.
Commenting on the planned expansion of the team, Ilosta founder Dr Saber Khayatzadeh said: “We are in an especially important stage of the company’s journey, having emerged from a pipeline of assisted development into a commercial world.
“The hard work done during our pre-commercial phase has enabled us to hit the ground running and we are delighted with progress so far. Our ethos of innovation, collaboration and accountability will stand us in good stead as we look to the future with confidence and optimism, and we are excited about what lies in store during the remainder of this year and beyond.”
