Asia’s offshore sector is entering a dynamic phase, with mature deepwater oil and gas assets still playing a critical role in energy supply while offshore wind is rapidly gaining momentum as countries pursue energy transition and greater energy independence. Tracerco has successfully delivered two landmark subsea projects in Southeast Asia, showcasing the versatility of its technologies in both traditional and renewable energy markets.

Supporting life extension in Southeast Asia’s deepwater fields

In late 2024, Tracerco deployed its Discovery™ subsea CT scanner technology on a deepwater asset in Southeast Asia. The project formed part of a life extension programme for a mature field, where the operator needed to verify the integrity of complex subsea flowlines. Deepwater systems often use “pipe-in-pipe” configurations, with insulation and multiple layers designed to maintain flow assurance over long distances. These designs are notoriously difficult to inspect externally.

Discovery™ provided a non-intrusive way to confirm integrity without disrupting production. High resolution, accurate, real-time results gave the operator assurance to make informed decisions on the future condition of the asset - a vital outcome in a region where late-life infrastructure continues to play a central role in energy supply.

Quality assurance for offshore wind in Taiwan

Tracerco also recently completed its first grout density monitoring project in Taiwan, applying the technology to the foundations of an offshore wind farm. Grout is used to secure subsea structures such as turbine monopiles or jacket legs to the seabed. For developers, ensuring grout quality is critical: poor density or inconsistent mix can compromise stability and delay construction schedules.

The Tracerco DiagnosticsTM grout monitoring technology provides an accurate, repeatable, and conclusive way to measure grout density during installation. By confirming “right first time” deployment, the technology removes guesswork, reduces the need for costly over-pouring, and minimises waste - delivering both environmental and economic benefits.

Expert insight

Donald Ballantyne, Business Development Manager at Tracerco, commented: “Deepwater subsea assets and offshore wind foundations present very different challenges, but both require accurate, reliable insight to ensure safety and performance. With Discovery™, we can inspect complex pipe-in-pipe systems that other methods cannot reach, and with grout density monitoring we give operators assurance that foundations are installed correctly. Having the right data at the right time is what enables our customers to make decisions and move forward with confidence, reduce waste, and ultimately contribute to safer and more sustainable offshore developments.”

Global expertise, local delivery

These two projects underline how Tracerco’s portfolio can support operators across the full en

ergy spectrum - from maximising production in mature oil and gas assets, to ensuring the quality and safety of offshore wind developments. With more than five years of continuous development, the Tracerco DiagnosticsTM grout monitoring technology has evolved to meet changing client requirements, while Discovery™ remains a unique solution for complex subsea inspection challenges.

By deploying proven technologies into Southeast Asia, Tracerco is helping operators extend asset life, reduce risk, and deliver major infrastructure right first time. As the region continues to balance secure energy supply with ambitious transition goals, Tracerco’s combination of global expertise and local capability positions it to play an important role in enabling safe and sustainable offshore operations.
