Have you heard? The new Cygnus Underwater ultrasonic thickness gauge—a sensational upgrade from its predecessor, is now available to order!

Designed specifically for professional divers, the new Cygnus Underwater achieves fast, dependable ultrasonic thickness measurements in the harshest subsea and inland environments. Built with intelligent features and robust engineering, this gauge delivers exceptional precision and reliability, and continues the brand’s legacy of durability, accuracy, and ease of use.

What’s new?The original Cygnus Underwater gauge earned a loyal following for its simplicity and resilience. However, with the success of the feature-rich Cygnus Dive, we saw an opportunity to combine the best of both models—and more! The result? A versatile, torch-style gauge with a sleek ergonomic design and advanced functionality.

The most significant upgrade is its multi-mode capability. In addition to the trusted Multiple-Echo mode—still the gold standard for through-coating measurements approved by Classification Societies—the gauge now includes Echo-Echo mode for corroded metals with thin coatings and Single-Echo mode for uncoated metals with severe corrosion. This flexibility ensures accurate readings across a wide range of materials and conditions.

A crisp colour LCD screen guarantees visibility even in low-light waters. Plus, a new depth sensor displays the diver’s live depth on-screen, alongside measurement data, A-Scan, and datalogging views. A real-time clock tags measurements with date and time, while Auto-Set Gain optimizes probe performance automatically.

Applications at SeaCygnus Underwater is built for the toughest environments, and it doesn’t get much tougher than the most remote parts of the ocean.

Offshore applications include:

  • Offshore platforms and Mobile Offshore Units (MOUs);

  • Ship Class Surveys (UWILD and IWS);

  • Subsea equipment, pipelines, and manifolds;

  • Shallow-water structures.

Marine vessels and structures face severe corrosion from harsh, abrasive wave action and seawater spray. Where corrosion is high risk, protective coatings are quick to follow. This gauge is ideal for measuring through-coatings, using Multiple-Echo mode combined with Deep-Coat (ignoring coatings up to 20 mm) to ensure accurate, verified measurements. This gauge also saves marine vessels covering needless miles to reach dry dock and experiencing downtime, by facilitating UWILD or IWS Class Surveys whilst ships are enroute, saving time and costs.

Infrastructure & Inland Waterways

Beyond marine use, the gauge supports Inspection, Repair and Maintenance – IRM, for inland waterway applications such as:

  • Civil engineering (i.e. bridges and pipelines)

  • Canal locks and dams

  • Workboat and barge hull inspections

  • Marine structures (i.e. piers and jetties)

Its intuitive menu and quick-access keys are designed specifically for the simplest and fastest operation, allowing divers to work efficiently and safely in diverse and complex environments.
