Trelleborg to Showcase High Integrity Sealing Solutions at SPE Offshore Europe

Innovative solutions for high‑integrity sealing applications developed by Trelleborg Sealing Solutions are to be showcased at Europe’s leading offshore exploration and production (E&P) event next month.

Visitors to SPE Offshore Europe Conference & Exhibition in Aberdeen will be able to view the groundbreaking technologies developed by Trelleborg’s sealing specialists in recent years.

One of the products set to be highlighted at the four-day event from September 3, is a Medium Duty Rotary Gate Valve. It was developed in partnership with LB Bentley, specialists in creating small bore subsea valves for subsea applications.

The gate valve incorporates a custom version of Trelleborg’s Turcon® Variseal® MC that demonstrates pioneering stem sealing technology that considerably reduces the “risk of contamination and failure”. The seal was specifically engineered for this compact and robust subsea valve and is already achieving field-proven success.

An extensive selection of seal profiles specifically developed for demanding offshore applications will also be shown at the exhibition, including the new XploR™ S-Seal and XploR™ FS-Seal. Both are custom‑engineered, spring‑energized seals that offer enhanced extrusion resistance necessary for demanding high temperature and high‑pressure (HTHP) sealing environments within oilfield applications. Featuring the XploR™ range of sealing materials; an entire family of advanced elastomers, these high integrity seals combine the benefits of integral support components with the flexibility of elastomer seals.

Also on stand is the metal end cap seal, which was specifically engineered for High Temperature/High Pressure (HTHP) wellhead tubing and casing hanger sealing environments. It unites the pressure and extrusion resistance of a metal-to-metal bonded component with the flexibility of an elastomer. Combining Trelleborg’s proprietary XploR™ Rapid Gas Decompression (RGD) and sour gas resistant elastomers with corrosion resistant metal end caps, customised sealing solutions can be developed that meet specific oil field requirements.

David Brown, the Global Director, Lead Group Oil & Gas for Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, says: “Trelleborg is always one step ahead of the game to support the constantly evolving offshore industry. Oil and gas exploration continues to move to greater subsea depths and this has put an increased emphasis on enhanced oil recovery processes.

LB Bentley R&D Design Engineer Noelle Sears with Trelleborg’s Antoine Charrier

“Seals are critical elements within oil and gas systems, as they ensure oil field equipment is working to its optimum capacity. Anyone who uses a Trelleborg product knows it will withstand the extreme operating temperatures and pressures of drilling in today’s HPHT environments, while also meeting the safety standards, required within the industry.”

SPE Offshore Europe is recognized by offshore E&P professionals as Europe’s leading E&P event that regularly attracts more than 36,000 delegates and over 900 exhibitors. The conference run in parallel is the largest free-toattend conference in the industry. Programmed by a keynote and technical committee of industry thought-leaders, including peer-reviewed technical abstracts, the conference is truly “by the industry, for the industry”.

Experts from Trelleborg Sealing Solutions and Trelleborg’s offshore operation will be in Hall 3, Stand 3B30. For further details of Trelleborg’s sealing solutions for oil and gas applications, visit
