PETERSON AWARDED ACCREDITATION FOR OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT

Leading international energy logistics company, Peterson, has achieved the international standard ISO 45001:2018 accreditation for their occupational health and safety management system in the Netherlands.

ISO 45001 is the new international standard for Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management Systems, replacing the old British Standard OHSAS 18001:2007. The new standard provides a framework to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions and focuses on a proactive approach, to improving OHS performance.

This certification, awarded to the Dutch divisions of the Peterson Offshore Group (Peterson Den Helder BV, Peterson Chemicals BV, Peterson Supply BV, Peterson IJmuiden BV and Peterson Recruitment BV), underlines the company’s commitment as a global leader in health and safety, whilst demonstrating compliance to all applicable legislation. Until the publication of ISO 45001 in March 2018, most organisations were using national standards, which were often significantly different from each other. This new international standard demonstrates consistency across the various markets and helps with cross-border operations.

The new safety standard helps organisations to manage their risks and improve their performance to make people safer and healthier. The certification will help organisations to demonstrate that they have a robust health and safety management system in place, boosting their reputation to customers and employees alike.

The certificate promotes workers to take an active role in health and safety, helping to reduce lost time due to accidents or ill health – creating a better working environment for your people and reducing costs and downtime in the process.

Lennart Hartog, HSEQ Team Leader, commented: "Keeping our people safe remains our number one priority, and this certification will support our commitment by establishing a robust framework and reporting system. We are proud that our personal responsibility core value enables all our people to feel empowered to challenge unsafe behaviours and stop any jobs they deem to be unsafe."

Alongside this latest accreditation, Peterson continues to strive towards better safety procedures through their innovative use of smart technology. Peterson goes beyond simple data gathering and uses data to identify patterns where safety may be compromised, enabling safety to be managed both predictably and proactively.

Keith Dawson Director of HSEQ added: "We are absolutely delighted to be one of the first companies to achieve this prestigious standard. The health and safety of our employees is vitally important to us all at Peterson and OHS is an area where our company are constantly coming up with new ideas to reduce risk and improve safety performance. The benefits of this standard have now committed Peterson to achieve this standard globally across all our operations by the end of Q3 2018. The ISO 45001 accreditation strengthens Peterson’s position and our global goal to be the preferred supplier in the energy logistics sector, as well as our commitment to improve safety and efficiency."
