BOLT SECURITY – COMBINED, EFFICIENT, SAFE

With dropped objects a constant potential hazard ensuring bolt security is critical and with the one piece design of the HEICOLOCK ® Wedge Lock Nut securing bolted joints, even in the most demanding of applications, is more efficient and safe.

The HEICO-LOCK® Wedge Lock Nut incorporates the proven bolt security technology of the HEICO-LOCK® Wedge Locking Washers with a flanged nut. The key to the effectiveness of this system is the pair of wedge locking washers. The washers have wedge shaped cams on the inside surface and radial teeth on the outside. Tightening of the nut creates a ‘gripping’ action of the external radial teeth of the washers thus seating the mating surface. The wedge angle of the internal cams is greater than the pitch of the bolt thread. This means that the expansion in thickness of the wedge lock washers is greater than the possible longitudinal movement of the bolt along the thread.

The wedge shaped cams have a considerably lower friction coefficient than the toothed outside of the washers so any loosening caused by dynamic stresses causes movement between the two washers in the region of the wedged cams. Any such movement creates an expansion in the thickness of the washers, resulting in an increase in the clamping force thus causing the wedge lock nut and bolt to self-lock.

The HEICO-LOCK® Wedge Lock Nut is supplied pre-assembled with the flanged nut and the Wedge Locking Washers combined in a captive and rotary system. As the nut and washers are fixed permanently in the correct position the risk of misuse is eliminated and the one piece design makes for simple and fast installation, even in hard to reach locations.
