Proserv’s A2G technology scoops Subsea UK innovation award

Energy services company Proserv has received a prestigious industry award for its subsea communications technology that is breathing new life into ageing brownfield developments.

At last weeks Subsea UK Awards ceremony, Proserv’s Artemis 2G (A2G) was recognised with the accolade for Innovation and Technology, a next generation Subsea Electronics Module (SEM) that delivers advanced subsea controls connectivity and provides substantial cost savings to operators.

Proserv was honoured with the title in recognition of its excellence in developing A2G and bringing it to market with demonstrable proof that the technology provided a solution to a problem and complemented the company’s overall business plan.

At the core of A2G’s development is the growing market need for more cost-effective methods of extending field life and optimising production using existing infrastructure.

Chief Executive officer at Proserv, David Lamont, said: “Winning such an industry award and more importantly the industry recognition has great significance for us, reinforcing our drive to develop such hugely enabling technologies for our clients and the industry at large. It is especially great recognition for the dedication and hard work of our global engineering and technology teams.

“Ingenious simplicity is at the core of Proserv’s approach. We work with our customers to maximise the use of their existing infrastructure and assets by delivering appropriate products and services specifically developed for marginal and brownfield applications – driving costs down, while providing the systems to improve operating efficiency and the ability to understand and optimise field and reservoir performance in the short and long term.”

A2G is an integral part of the Proserv Subsea Control Module and Open Communications Hubs and is one of the core technologies within the company’s Augmented Control Technologies (ACT) toolkit. The advanced technology allows the operator to dramatically increase bandwidth/data rates over both new and existing umbilicals, essential in all applications but particularly valuable in older fields where higher data rates (and power supply) are needed but the financial realities will not support the conventional high cost solutions.

Unlike previous SEM designs, A2G goes beyond the normal limitations of data speed, instrumentation power supplies, accessibility on subsea networks, and obsolescence management of subsea technology and provides a platform for legacy support for brownfield subsea systems not always available from the OEM.

A2G is being successfully used by leading global oil majors and independent operators. What makes it ‘game-changing’ is the way it manages communication signals and power and the intelligent way that it configures and communicates data at different optimized rates independent of other signals or noise at each subsea well. The on-board highly adaptive communications controller enables data speeds 10- times faster than otherwise available within the industry, with power capacity to meet the most demanding of instruments required.

Proserv is a technology-driven company providing products, services and bespoke solutions to clients across the drilling, production and decommissioning market sectors. Operating worldwide through 22 operating centres based in 12 countries, the company has won a string of industry awards over the years in recognition of its achievements.
