North-East firm Air Control Energy takes off for first global exhibition
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) inspection specialist to the oil and gas industry has launched in Aberdeen.
Air Control Energy, which provides a cost-effective alternative to traditional rope-based visual inspection work both on and offshore, has also announced it will be exhibiting at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) from November 7 to 10.
The company will form part of the SDI Scotland Pavilion (stand number 1210), along with around 60 other oil and gas service companies, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
Led by Managing Director Kieran Hope and Operations Director Drue Bremner, Air Control Energy has a team of eight trained pilots who are all NDT or compEX qualified technicians.
The business expects to make an announcement in the new year regarding the addition of new technologies for advanced capability survey and inspection work delivered using UAVs.
Kieran Hope, managing director at Air Control Energy, said: “We are genuinely excited about the opportunity to exhibit at our first global exhibition, ADIPEC, to promote our groundbreaking solutions within the energy community and bridge gaps by bringing oil and gas professionals face-to-face with new technologies and business opportunities.
“We are looking forward to promoting two of our newly designed and manufactured UAVs, which are already being used to benefit clients’ operations both on and offshore. Given current market conditions, we have received a very positive response with companies across a broad range of sectors in need of cost-effective alternatives for essential inspection work, whilst ensuring safety continues to be of paramount importance.”

Based at Kirkhill Industrial Estate in Dyce, Air Control Energy provides a full range of inspection drones, each designed and manufactured in-house. Each UAV is bespoke and tailored to suit individual clients’ needs.
The company works closely with companies in the oil and gas, renewables, utilities and decommissioning industries. Clients benefit from increased savings in project costs and reduced time spent to perform a visual inspection, while mitigating the risks associated with traditional working at height methods.
