Rotaflow Makes CALM Buoy SPM Swivel
Rotaflow was recently contracted by Rhizome Energy Ltd to produce a retrofit Single Point Mooring (SPM) swivel for an existing Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring (CALM) buoy. The pipeline retrieves crude oil via the CALM buoy to FSO (Floating Storage and Offloading) mooring system. The project required the existing unit, housed within the buoy, to be replaced with a modified and newly designed smaller siwivel in order to accommodate it’s new purpose. Rotaflow’s scope was to design,

New Pumps for High Pressure, High Temperature Applications
A new positive displacement axial piston pump which offers outstanding performance in high pressure, high temperature applications has been introduced by Precision Micro‑hydraulic specialists THE LEE COMPANY. The HPHT family of pumps can generate up to 10,000 psid (690 bar) at temperatures of 400ºF (200ºC) so are ideal for critical hydraulic fluids transfer applications such as down hole oil tools and aerospace. An important benefit of the innovative axial piston design of t

Wolf Recommends ATEX Certified Lighting for Safe Use in Potentially Explosive Hydrogen Atmospheres
Using ATEX or IECEx certified lighting in atmospheres where hydrogen may be present is strongly recommended as a safety precaution by technical experts at Wolf Safety. While acknowledging that hydrogen’s ‘green’ credentials are highly encouraging, Wolf Safety believe the risks of explosion in atmospheres where hydrogen is present should not be underestimated. As world leaders in the design and manufacture of portable and temporary lighting for use in hazardous areas, Wolf Saf

Planning, Training and Competence Delivers Safe and Successful Results Diving using NITROX
Africa Diving Services (ADS) was awarded a surface diving contract offshore Nigeria in 2021. The contract required the planning for over 1000 dives of which the majority were to be carried out using surface decompression. During the planning phase of the project, it was identified that the safest and most productive means to complete the works was to use NITROX diving methods. A client requirement was to ensure that all the dive team members(divers and diving supervisors of a

Keeping the Clever Bits Dry
Roy Phillips, MD of Intelliconnect (Europe) considers the evolution of waterproof connectors Some time ago a manufacturer of Locator Beacons, approached us and requested we design a range of special connectors. Despite the small quantities involved, we were happy to oblige. “They need to be waterproof (unmated).” OK that’s fine, a piece of hermetic glass in the rear end will work! They told us that was too expensive. They wanted to pay the same as a standard connector. And –
