TRANSMISSION PIECE LEVELLING

Levelling wind turbines in which the turbine foundations come in two parts: a monopile (MP) and a transition piece (TP). THE SITUATION The Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm will be constructed off the coast of Norfolk, East England. The wind farm comprises of 67 monopile foundations on which 6 MW capacity turbines will be placed. The project is a joint venture from Statoil (70%) and Statkraft (30%). THE CHALLENGE The foundations are formed by two large steel structures: a monopile (MP) that is driven into the seabed, and a transition piece (TP) that is fitted on top of the MP. Six to twelve pre-installed hydraulic cylinders inside the TP make it possible to align the TP - which weighs over 300 tons

THINK YOU'RE SAFE?

Remove Doubt by Using Wolf Safety’s New Voltage Alert Technology Working in potentially explosive atmospheres is hazardous enough without having concerns that the voltage being supplied to temporary lighting is no longer within certified limits. How can anyone be absolutely sure what voltage is being supplied, especially in a typical, long cable FPSO situation? Could it be one volt more or less than the certified safe range? Reassurance is now available from Wolf Safety, whose latest technology gives an immediate warning when voltage either slips below or exceeds certified limits, even by just one volt. Their SOVI™ technology - it stands for Safe Optimal Voltage Indicator – removes all doubt

SEAFASTENING SYSTEM FOR MARINE TRANSPORTATION

Transportation by sea of monopiles for offshore wind farms. Location: United Kingdom THE SITUATION For the installation of offshore wind farms, the components, including monopiles (hereinafter: MP’s) are transported by sea on specially constructed heavy-lift vessels. THE CHALLENGE Holmatro have designed the so-called seafastening construction for the UK installation company Seajacks that ensure that the MPs remain securely in position, even in the most extreme circumstances. The MPs (weight: 600 ton p/pcs) rest on two support points and are secured to the deck with straps with the aid of a saddle construction. Four straps, each with a pre-stressed capacity of a minimum of 50 tons, must be an

PACSON VALVES

Pacson Valves started trading in 1992 from the company’s original premises in Carnoustie, Scotland; a small east coast town more famous for its world championship golf course than for valve manufacture. However, the area from Arbroath to Dundee had a long history of high precision engineering so proved to be a very good location for Pacson to find the skills necessary to make valves. When the company first started, the product range was focussed on only small bore, high pressure valves for the oil and gas industry. These products found success in the upstream and subsea sectors of the global oil and gas market, which allowed Pacson to grow and expand its product range through the 1990s and e

KEEPING THE CLEVER BITS DRY

Roy Phillips, MD of Intelliconnect (Europe), considers the evolution of waterproof connector Some time ago a manufacturer of Locator Beacons, approached us and requested we design a range of special connectors. Despite the small quantities involved, we were happy to oblige. “They need to be waterproof (unmated).” OK that’s fine, a piece of hermetic glass in the rear end will work! They told us that was too expensive. They wanted to pay the same as a standard connector And - “We need it to be highly reliable....with no NRE charge.” So, we had to design, develop, sample, machine, plate, assemble and deliver a range of four connectors with a completely new feature, in seven weeks!! The connecto

MASTER FLO ENABLES INCREMENTAL PRODUCTION INCREASES WITH THE NEW HIGH-RESOLUTION SUBSEA ACTUATOR

Master Flo’s new SL3 High-Resolution Subsea Actuator does this by leveraging installed subsea architecture to enable operators to safely increase production without overstepping and potentially causing formation damage. Based on hydraulic stepping actuator designs, proven in subsea applications for over 20 years, the SL3 is backward compatible with existing subsea chokes while providing three times the number of opening set points of previous actuators. This makes it possible to bring new production wells online with precision flow management that reduces the downhole pressure drop and surge experienced at each step, and thereby decreasing the likelihood of reservoir damage, sand production

'KBAT DIVER MEDIC' APP IS NOW AVAILABLE

Maintain competence by learning anytime, anywhere at your fingertips. Safety Consultancy and Training Provider, KBA Training Centre Pte Ltd (KBAT), is proud to announce the launch of its first mobile application ‘KBAT Diver Medic’ and it is now available. The Diver Medic Continuous Personal Development mobile application (DMT App), is developed with the aim to help diver medics (DMTs) maintain their competence. With insufficient practice, medical skills will fade overtime. Thus, it is crucial to stay current. This purpose-built application will allow DMTs to keep updated of the latest procedures, how procedures are carried out, maintain current with industry guidance and information, and par

UNIVERSITY AND INDUSTRY JOIN FORCES TO INCREASE SAFETY AND REDUCE COST FOR OIL AND GAS COMPANIES

Oil and gas companies are making huge savings and boosting safety thanks to a unique industry partnership between leading simulator developer, Drilling Systems and Robert Gordon University (RGU). The Oil and Gas Institute at RGU is working with Drilling Systems and its innovative drilling, well control and lifting simulator technology to help oil and gas companies identify ways to improve efficiencies and raise safety standards, which in turn is leading to substantial cost savings. Over the past 12 months, the partnership has worked with several oil and gas companies to help them reduce nonproductive time and optimise drilling. Each client’s project is different, but one of the most popular

M2M GEKKO® SUCCESSFULLY QUALIFIED BY THE EPRI

Eddyfi Technologies is proud to announce that the Gekko phased-array flaw detector has been successfully qualified for the examination of austenitic and ferritic piping welds according to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) procedure “EPRI-PIPE-MPA-1, Rev.2”.The EPRI procedure is qualified according to ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, Appendix VIII. CYGNUS UT FMD: FIRST YEAR IN THE FIELD

Flooded Member Detection is an inspection regime designed to screen subsea platform structural members for defects. A cracked weld, or similar, can allow the ingress of sea water into the member which may go on to create a point of failure for the structure. Operators therefore inspect these members on a regular basis to gain confidence that there has been no sea water ingress. CYGNUS EQUIPMENT The Cygnus Flooded Member Detection (FMD) system is the only one of its kind available that is designed by a dedicated, ultrasonic NDT (Non Destructive Testing) specialist. When the Cygnus system presents a Flooded / Not Flooded result, that result is backed up with a true, rectified A-Scan. This allo
